SUPERSONIC TIME FLIES
The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) published on their website an article by Jennifer Coutts Clay celebrating the 50th anniversary of the launch of Concorde, the world’s first supersonic passenger jet. Clay recalls the exclusive travel experience, including welcoming service at airport check-in, spectacular views as Concorde cruised on the edge of space, and sometimes even friendly conversations with the crew in the flight deck. Captain Michael Bannister, Former Chief Concorde Pilot, British Airways, shared his recollections about his years piloting the storied supersonic airliner. Clay’s article also looks ahead to the possible renewal of supersonic passenger flight with industry newcomer Boom Supersonic.
‘At the front of each cabin, a Machmeter ticked up as Concorde flew faster than a rifle bullet and at an altitude twice the height of Mount Everest.’
